Duke, the Horse and Aadu, the Goat

kids story

Mr.Miller, a farmer was raising horses and goats in his farm land behind his house. One day, Duke, the horse became very sick. He cannot walk or run. All day he was sleeping. The Farmer called the veterinary doctor to diagnose what made Duke sick.

The Vet Doctor checked and diagnosed that Duke was affected by Potomac Horse Fever. He said to the farmer “Mr.Miller, I will give medicines for three days. On the third day he should be able to walk and be active. But if he is in this same condition, sorry to say,  we have to kill him or else this disease will spread to other animals in your stable and all the animals will die.

Mr. Miller felt very sad after hearing it from the doctor. Duke is his favorite horse among all the other horses and animals he grew. Every morning he will ride on Duke and walk with him too. Duke is a Pinto colored horse. Everyone from the town likes him very much. Even the children like to touch his tail and legs. Some kids even cry as they wanted to go on a ride sitting on Duke’s back.

Kids story

Aadu, the goat was listening to what the doctor said to Mr. Miller and informed about the disease to Duke. Duke felt very sad.

The next day, the Vet came and gave the first dose of medicines for Duke and went. Aadu came to Duke and said “Wake up my Friend! Try to stand otherwise they will kill you”. Aadu encouraged. Duke tried, but he could not make it.

The Second day, the next dosage of medicine was given to Duke. Aadu asked him to walk. Duke tried and he was little better than yesterday. Aadu reminded him that if you don’t start walking and running, the farmer will kill you.

Lastly, the third day has come. The Vet came and gave medicine and an injection for Duke. Aadu warned him and said “Friend, this is your last day and final chance to be alive. Come on get up and start  walking!  Listening to the encouraging words and Aadu’s warning, Duke slowly got up and began to walk.

Kids story

In the same day’s eve, Mr. Miller came to see his lovable Duke and he felt sad that he is going to miss him. But to his surprise, he saw Duke was walking and running inside his farm land. He went and hugged Duke’s neck.

Mr. Miller immediately called the Vet and shared the happy news with him.

He also said that he wanted to celebrate this happy news by giving a treat for the Vet. Mr. Miller invited the Vet to his home for lunch. He also informed him that he will cook the goat for the feast. The Vet accepted the invitation.

Hearing this Aadu and Duke were very upset.

Duke said “Dude! If you are here tonight, they will definitely cook you.  So you better run away from this place. Even though you won’t be with me, I will happy that you are alive somewhere. For God sake, runaway and save your life!!”

Aadu was very sad and he didn’t have the heart to part away from Duke. But to save his own life, he ran away from Mr. Miller’s farm.

Moral: Anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you. Never be afraid to help others in their time of need. You never know when you may need that shoulder to lean on.

Goldy, a Friendly Fish

Nagapattnam, a place in Tamil Nadu is a coastal area. Most people do fishing for their survival. Early morning, fishermen get ready with their fishing rod, big wired nets, baskets, and other accessories which are needed for fishing. They also pack some food and drinking water as they don’t know when they will be back to home. In a small village in Nagapattam, there lived a fisherman named Mattu. Mattu was a tall, strong and dark man with short curly hair. He wears colorful dhoti and a white vest with a munda (a piece of cloth) tied as a turban to his head. By 3.00 am, he packed his things and left for fishing in deep sea. That day, the sea was very violent and stormy. Big waves raised up the yatch. His yatch was almost about to drown. He shouted for help, being in the middle of the sea. None could hear him in that strong wind. Mattu’s Yatch drowned. He held a piece of wood from the yatch and was floating. Back in the village, Liloo, Mattu’s daughter was worried that her father...
