Rio learned Kindness

Rio, a toddler with blue eyes and brown curly hair. He loves his green Dinosaur toy. Rio’s favorites are candy, jelly beans, chocolates and butter cookies.

On a windy day, he went to school. He was in a very bad mood because his umbrella flew away on the way to school. Rio sat quietly in the class and was thinking what he should say to his mom if she asks “Where is the umbrella??”

Lia, his classmate saw Rio’s moody face and came near to speak with him. But Rio angrily shouted at her and said “Go away! You specky girl! Go away!” as Lia wears spectacle to her school everyday. She was saddened by Rio’s words and left the desk.

The next day, mom asked Rio “Where is the umbrella which I gave you yesterday??” With little fear in his eyes Rio answered “Mom, it was blown away by the wind. I tried to catch it but…it went high ..high..high up high in the sky”

Mom said “It’s okay Dear! I will buy a new one”. Then she continued “Yesterday I saw Lia, she looked very upset and sad. What happened? Do you know anything about her?

Rio replied “Mom, it was because of me. I shouted and called her Specky girl in front of my classmates.

Mom put a hand around Rio’s shoulder and said “Dear, what you did was wrong. You need to be kind”.

Rio questioned her “Mom, What is Kindness?”

Mom explained “Kindness is saying something in a gentle way. You can be kind to your brother, sister, and cousins or even to your pet. Kindness is showing respect to elders and younger ones. We should show Kindness to people who are angry or unhappy or sad or mad. Kindness is also helping people who are in need. Kindness is an act of good deed”.

Later that night, when he was about to sleep Rio remembered the words that his mom told about Kindness. So he decided from the next day he should be kind and polite with everyone.

Kids story

The first act of kindness started with his mom. Rio put away his bed and folded his blankie. When his mom served him breakfast he thanked her.

In the school bus, Rio met a new boy. He gave him a seat to sit and also helped him find his class room. When he went to his class, he greeted his friends and also shared his color pens during the drawing class. He saw Lia, who was sitting in the last table. Rio went to her and apologized for his mistake. Lia smiling said “It’s Okay”

That night Rio told his mom that he was Kind with his friends and school mates. And he felt it was nice and gave him a good happy feel”. Mom asked him to show kindness to everyone.

In the park, Rio without becoming angry he waited for his turn to play the swing. Rio helped a child in the park to find his lost ball.

The other day, when he went to a supermarket his mom he helped the lady by holding the door and carried grocery bags to her car. He also picked the crushed paper and threw it into garbage bin even though it was not his. When Rio and his mom returned home, they helped the old lady to cross the road. He learned to be kind with everyone and he found it cool and glee to be.

One night Rio’s dad fell asleep while watching Tv and when Rio saw him, he brought a blanket and covered his dad and kissed his cheeks.

Rio also helped his sister tie her shoe lace and finish her home works. She was very happy to see Rio helping her.

Rio offered a piece of cake to his neighbor and helped him to water the plants. Rio understood that Kindness have magical powers to bring everyone together.

He stopped being rude and mean to others. He stopped teasing his friends, slamming the door, throwing the toys around the house or shouting at my mom and friends.

Rio was a Kind boy forever.

Moral: You should be Kind with others without expectations. An act of kindness is never gone wasted. Kindness is doing what you can, wherever you are, with what you have. Hope you all can start being kind at least you can make a try. It’s worth it!

The Pan and the Potatoes By Kirsi Kunnas

Phew! I’m sweating and steaming I feel like screaming I’m bubbling and seething I’m rattling like tea-things The pan said took his hat off his head and Phew! I’m absolutely boiling I’m bristling and whistling and hustling and moiling And all hot and sizzling It’s a mad mad bustle The pan said took its hat off its head and Phew! Ouch this hoppity, hoppity, hoppity Shouted the potatoes, popping up fit to split No way of stopping it, dropping it, swapping it dancing a polka, have to, dance, dancing a polka Got to go higher now, shoes are on fire now Galloping, galloping, off at a lollop Jumping and jumping and off at a wallop Turning and thumping, thumping and turning Oh this knocking and bumping and socking Off again copping it, hopping it, whopping it makes me split No way of stopping it!   This poem sings about how the potatoes are feeling when they are boiled in a pan. The potatoes say that they are very angry and wanted to scream becaus...
