A leprechaun made a hole in the tree trunk and lived there for many years. His name was Greenie. Greenie was just 2 feet tall. He had orange hair and suits him up with green pants, white shirt and a green coat. He wears green pointed shoes.
Greenie is a shoe maker. He makes shoes for men, women, fairies and witches. The hand crafted shoes comes in three different colors – Green, Gold and Lavender. A wide range of shoes were cobbled by him. Some are pointed toes, some box heels, some high heels and some no heels. People loved his craftsmanship.
Greenie has some magical
powers too. He can grant three wishes to people he like or helped him in some
way. Greenie also had the ability to see where the rainbow ends.
Greenie got a gold coin
for every pair of shoe he made. It was exclusive and liked by everyone. Even
the fairies from mushroom land and witches from haunted house gave him gold
coins for their customized shoes.
Greenie keeps all the
gold coins in a big metal pot. His pot was getting filled as he made more new
shoes for more customers. He is a miser.
He won’t spend or share the money with any.
Once a man named Peter
came to Greenie’s shoes shop. He asked Greenie to make a pair of shoes for him.
Peter also told him that the shoes would be Lavender blue with thick heels. Peter
peeped inside Greenie’s house and found the place where the big metal pot of gold
coins kept. Peter wanted all the gold for him. Within seconds, he started to
day dream of a rich life.
Peter told Greenie
that, after three day he would come and collect the shoes. Greenie could sense something
strange about Peter and the way he peeped and looked at his gold coins.
When Peter left, Greenie
buried the metal pot in a field filled with berry bushes.
On the third day, Peter
came back to see Greenie and get the shoes from him. Greenie neatly packed the
lavender blue shoes and gave it to Peter.
Peter gave him a gold
coin. When Greenie was about to hide the gold, Peter caught hold and threatened
Greenie to give him the three wishes. Greenie gave Peter what he asked for.
The first wish, Peter
asked Greenie to show where the metal pot with gold coins is.
The second wish, Peter
asked for a hundred pair of new shoes.
And the last wish was
he wanted three more wishes.
Greenie said “I can
grant you the first two wishes but the third wish won’t be granted as you are
so greedy”. Greenie took Peter to the berry field and showed him the place
where the pot is hidden. The greedy Peter didn’t have a shovel to dig so he
marked the place by inserting a stick to the ground and put one of his lavender
blue shoe on the top. He went back home to get the shovel.
When Peter retuned
back, he saw puzzled. There were 100 sticks and 100 shoes inserted all over the
field. Now he couldn’t find the exact place of hidden pot. Peter understood
that he was tricked by Greenie, the leprechaun.
Greedy Peter started to
dig many holes all over the field to find the gold. But it was all vain. He
couldn’t find it. He tried to collect the shoes but it disappeared one after
another.
Meanwhile, Greenie
carried his metal pot in a wheel barrow and was thinking about the best place
to hide it.
Then an idea struck him. He buried his pot with golden coin at the end of a rainbow because no one could never find where the rainbow ends. And Greenie only knows how to find it again.
Moral: He who wants everything every time will lose anything at any time. Greediness makes a man/woman blind and foolish and makes him/her a victim for sufferings
