What if everybody did that? By Ellen Javernick

A naughty boy went to zoo. He saw bears that were walking inside the fenced place. He threw his popcorns from the bag. The zookeeper saw it and shouted “Hey! What if everybody did that?”  Imagine if everyone who visits the zoo threw food to the animals. The animals will eat all the food and become sick and the whole place turns out messy. The boy goes to a supermarket and took a grocery cart out of the line. He pushed the cart and it went faster unduly. The shop manger shouted “Hey! What if everybody did that?” Don’t you think it will be a big problem? All the grocery items will be on the floor. The packets will be opened. People running with their carts here and there….Nooooo….can’t imagine. On the way to his grandparent’s home, he threw an empty soda can out of the car’s window. The police patrol stopped the car and asked him “What if everybody did that?”When all the travelers threw plastic bottles, cans, plastic bags, empty food covers out on the road. Imagine how our roads will...

Pappu’s Ice Cream

It was a very hot sunny day. Ginny started crying “Mom, Please buy me ice cream …please mom…please ….” after seeing the Ice cream parlor in the road side. Mom said “No Dear, not now! You have a sore throat. If you eat ice cream it will worsen up and you will get fever. Please understand Ginny! When you become sick you will lose your appetite and your strength. Now the school have started you cannot miss your classes.” Ginny’s brother Pappu’s eyes gleamed when he saw the ice cream parlor. His mouth started watering and he thought about the cold containers with different flavors of ice creams. Vanilla, Strawberry, Butterscotch, Litchi, Chocolate…hmmmm……so many new flavors are also added in today's Ice cream parlor's menu card   like Jack fruit, Bubble gum, Tender coconut, Fig and the list can go to the next street. Now, Pappu’s turn to cry, “Mother, I want ice cream! Buy me one! Pleasee…pleaseee…” Mom doesn’t know how to make them understand. She said “Okay, both of them st...

The Pan and the Potatoes By Kirsi Kunnas

Phew! I’m sweating and steaming I feel like screaming I’m bubbling and seething I’m rattling like tea-things The pan said took his hat off his head and Phew! I’m absolutely boiling I’m bristling and whistling and hustling and moiling And all hot and sizzling It’s a mad mad bustle The pan said took its hat off its head and Phew! Ouch this hoppity, hoppity, hoppity Shouted the potatoes, popping up fit to split No way of stopping it, dropping it, swapping it dancing a polka, have to, dance, dancing a polka Got to go higher now, shoes are on fire now Galloping, galloping, off at a lollop Jumping and jumping and off at a wallop Turning and thumping, thumping and turning Oh this knocking and bumping and socking Off again copping it, hopping it, whopping it makes me split No way of stopping it!   This poem sings about how the potatoes are feeling when they are boiled in a pan. The potatoes say that they are very angry and wanted to scream becaus...

Save every drop of water

It was a bright sunny morning. Golu woke up and stretched his hands with a slow “…yaaaahh….”. He got up from his bed and went to the bathroom to brush his teeth. Without turning off the water tap, he was brushing his teeth for a long time and emptied the whole water tank in his house. When he was about to wash his mouth and brush he found that no water came from the tap. He tapped the tap’s top and turned the value from left to right and right to left. He was confused “I saw the water  coming a minute back, now what happened??” he thought scratching his head. He called his Grandfather “Grandpa! Grandpa! Please come here!” Golu’s grandfather hurriedly came to Golu’s room. He thought Golu  is  in trouble. Golu: “Grandpa, I was brushing my teeth and there is no water coming out of this tap. Is there a mistake with the tap?? Please check Grandpa” Grandfather thoroughly inspected the tap. The tap was perfect. He checked the water line pipes for leakage. It was good ...

The Water of Life

Once upon a time, there were three brothers and they had a beautiful, wise sister named Anna. All the four of them worked very hard and built a beautiful palace. Everyone from the town admired the palace. But an old woman from the town said “We are so happy that you built a palace for your family. But the town needs a place to worship God. Can you build it for all of us?”. Anna and her three brothers accepted and built a place of worship for them. Next an old man came to them and asked “We are happy with the worship place, can you get us the pitcher of water of life, a branch with eternal flowers with sweet fragrance and a talking bird” The eldest brother accepted the old man’s request and set out for the quest. Anna and her other two brothers asked the old man eagerly “How will we know whether our brother is safe when going on this quest?” The old man replied “Here, take this knife. If the knife turns red, it means your brother is in danger”. Anna got the knife from the old man ...
