Save every drop of water

It was a bright sunny morning. Golu woke up and stretched his hands with a slow “…yaaaahh….”. He got up from his bed and went to the bathroom to brush his teeth. Without turning off the water tap, he was brushing his teeth for a long time and emptied the whole water tank in his house. When he was about to wash his mouth and brush he found that no water came from the tap.

He tapped the tap’s top and turned the value from left to right and right to left. He was confused “I saw the water coming a minute back, now what happened??” he thought scratching his head.

He called his Grandfather “Grandpa! Grandpa! Please come here!”

Golu’s grandfather hurriedly came to Golu’s room. He thought Golu is in trouble.

Golu: “Grandpa, I was brushing my teeth and there is no water coming out of this tap. Is there a mistake with the tap?? Please check Grandpa”

Grandfather thoroughly inspected the tap. The tap was perfect. He checked the water line pipes for leakage. It was good and in working condition. Now Grandfather was confused.

Grandfather: “Golu, everything is good, but why the water is not coming out of the tap??” Maybe I should check the water tank whether it has water or not?

Grandfather went to the terrace and opened the water tank lid and checked. There was no water in the tank. He slowly came down and called Golu.

Grandfather: “You must have opened the tap while brushing and left it open. This must be the reason why the water got drained from the tank”

Golu now understood the reason.

Grandfather: “How many times I have told you, not to open the tap while brushing. But you don’t understand why I am telling this and making the same mistake often”

Golu: “Grandpa! I have a doubt? Every day I open the tap and brush, but this is the first time that no water came from the tap. Please tell why it happened today but not in the other days?”

Grandfather: “It’s because the tank would be full, that’s why it didn’t drain. If you keep on doing this mistake again and again, one day you will never get water”

Golu: “Oh No! Grandpa, I promise you that I won’t repeat this again. But could you please tell me how  to save water?”

Grandfather: “Dear! We should spend water carefully as there is water scarcity everywhere in the city especially during summer. Instead of shower, we can use bucket of water when we bathe and a cup of water  when we rinse our mouth after brushing”.

Golu: “Grandpa, I have seen our neighbor uncle using a water hose to wash his car. Is that right??”

Grandfather: “Ah! It's wrong! First we should soap the car and then rinse it with the bucket of water. Golu, wherever you are, if you see the tap opened and the water is dripping from it, immediately close it.  If you see leaks in road taps or water connection, inform the water board corporation. They will come and attend the problem.

Golu: “Okay Grandpa, I will do it for sure. Now how will I get ready for school??” (standing with a toothbrush in his hand)

Grandfather: “Yes! Yes! you have to go to school. I will fill two buckets of water. Take one bucket of water and bathe. You should learn about different subjects like Science, Social studies, Maths apart from the studies you should also get educated on how to protect the nature”.

Golu nodded his head and went to bathe.

 

Every year March 22nd is observed and celebrated as World Water Day, to increase awareness about the importance of fresh water and the need to conserve it. As you all know how important Water is for living beings survival. We should save water for us and the future generations.
