Tutu’s Birthday Bash

By Shareena

Tutu is a little girl who is studying in her Grade 3. Her Birthday was on July 27th . She was thinking a lot about how to celebrate her B’day.

She always nags her mom “Ma, tell me how many days more for my Birthday and what are you going to gift me? Shall I call my friends for the B’day party or not? Will you buy me that delicious creamy strawberry cake with my favorite character printed on the top of the cake?

Ma said Tutu there are 4 weeks for your B’day to come. You should patiently wait and we can plan it slowly.

Ma was little worried as Tutu keeps on repeating the same questions every day morning. Ma also thought that when I was small I didn’t receive any cake or gifts from my parents. I didn’t even know or remember when my Birthday was.

One morning Tutu again came to her Ma with the same set of questions. Ma made Tutu sit on her lap and explained her, Baby! Do you know what would be the cost of the cake or the gifts you asked for?

Me and Pappa are happy to buy anything for you but, do you think that materialistic happiness stays in your mind for a long?

Tutu said ..hmmmm….I don’t know.

Ma told Tutu, may be you remember this B’day celebration for a week or a month..Later you will completely forget it and start planning for your next B’day and how to celebrate it.

If you are interested, Shall I give you an idea to make this B’day a memorable one?

With a sad face Tutu said..Okkkayyy…

Do you remember Meena amma and her daughter Kutty? They need a small help from us. As online classes are going on in the school, Kutty cannot attend the classes because she is not having a Tab or a computer, Ma continued.

Now tell me, can we buy a Tab as a gift for Kutty on your B’day?. She will be very happy and can continue with her classes too, Ma asked Tutu.

Tutu brightened up said Ma..it is a good idea. We can buy a Tab for Kutty and I will also feel happier in sharing my B’day with her.

But one more thing, will you buy me at least one slice of that creamy strawberry cake pleasssseeeeee……

Ma smiled and hugged Tutu.

It was April 14 th , Tamil New year. Mira’s mom woke her and asked her to get ready to send wishes and distribute sweets and savories to their neighbors Kumar family. Mira was too tired. Mira said to her mom that she still feel sleepy and doesn’t have the mood to dress up and go out. And more over Uncle Kumar’s son Thiyash never shares any of his things with Mira. Mira told her mom, “Thiyash is mean and selfish too. Why do we need to share him sweets made in our home, Ma” Mom replied “Today is new year. The Pan and the Potatoes By Kirsi Kunnas

Phew! I’m sweating and steaming I feel like screaming I’m bubbling and seething I’m rattling like tea-things The pan said took his hat off his head and Phew! I’m absolutely boiling I’m bristling and whistling and hustling and moiling And all hot and sizzling It’s a mad mad bustle The pan said took its hat off its head and Phew! Ouch this hoppity, hoppity, hoppity Shouted the potatoes, popping up fit to split No way of stopping it, dropping it, swapping it dancing a polka, have to, dance, dancing a polka Got to go higher now, shoes are on fire now Galloping, galloping, off at a lollop Jumping and jumping and off at a wallop Turning and thumping, thumping and turning Oh this knocking and bumping and socking Off again copping it, hopping it, whopping it makes me split No way of stopping it!   This poem sings about how the potatoes are feeling when they are boiled in a pan. The potatoes say that they are very angry and wanted to scream becaus...
