The Magical Bracelet

Once upon a time, in a beautiful castle there lived a King and a queen. Both loved each other very much. They had a lovely little and beautiful daughter named Rose. The Queen suffered pain due to an unknown disease. No palace doctors could make her cure. At the dying moment, the Queen gave a bracelet made up of golden hair and golden silk thread to her lovable daughter, Rose.  The Queen said to her daughter “wear it, and in any situation never remove it from your hand”. The Queen rested in peace.

Rose grew up to be a beautiful young and kind girl. The King thought Rose needed a mother. So the King remarried another woman named Erica, who had a jealousy and rude daughter named Araa. Erica, the stepmom as other stepmoms we have heard in the fairy tales, she also turned out to be a selfish, greedy and proud woman.

The Stepmom liked the King’s palace very much as it was decorated with antiques and sparkling chandeliers. Erica took away all the beautiful dresses and accessories that belonged to Rose and gave to her daughter, Araa. She made Rose, stay in home and do all the household chores like laundry, sweeping, cleaning, gardening and harvesting the yields which grew in their palace garden.

Rose had a cute little dog named Nick. Every evening she takes Nick for a walk. Nick loved Rose and he jumps on her with affection and stays near her all the day.

On a dusky evening Rose and Nick went out for an evening walk. Near a lake there was an enormous apple tree. Rose sat under it and she took a piece of cloth which she carried in her bag and started to sew it by her hand. A handsome man rode a strong legged white horse, saw Rose and went nearby and asked politely “What are you sewing?”

Fairy tale

Rose answered him jokingly “I am making a pocket handkerchief for the Great Prince of Spain”.

The handsome young man replied “So this handkerchief that you are stitching is for me? Am I right?”

Rose turned her face towards him and laughingly said “I said I am making this for the Prince of Spain not for a passerby like you”

“Unfortunately, I am the Prince of Spain and you can give that handkerchief to me” said the young man.

On hearing him, Rose rose up and bowed him and said “My Highness, it would take a week to finish this. Once it is done I will give it to you in this same place”. The Prince rode the horse and went back to his castle.

Rose was immensely happy that she met the Prince and spoke with him.

A week passed, under the same apple tree Rose met the Prince and handed the beautifully stitched handkerchief with a rose embroidered on it. In return, the Prince asked her to marry him.  But Rose answered him “Your Majesty! I need a week of time to decide and tell”.

The Prince accepted and went back.

On the next week, Rose with her stepsister Araa went to meet the Prince in his castle. While travelling to the castle, Araa stole the magical golden bracelet from Rose. Araa found out that the bracelet has magical powers of changing them self into a new person. After reaching the castle, Rose and Araa waited in a room. Meanwhile Araa turned herself into a very beautiful young girl and made Rose turn into a bad looking girl. Araa kept a new name as Maria for her own.

The Prince was impressed and fell in love with Maria, in first sight. And he married her. Even though the face and appearance changed in Araa, her jealously and rude character was the same. As days rolled up, the Prince felt bad in marrying her.

Months passed away.

The Prince’s father went to inspect the town, to know whether the people are living well. When he came across the apple tree then saw a bad looking girl was sobbing and narrating her story to her pet dog. The Prince’s father immediately informed his son about the girl. The Prince got the magical bracelet from Araa and got rid of her. He then brought Rose to his castle, gave her the bracelet. Rose transformed to her real beauty, after wearing her bracelet. The Prince recognised that this the girl he met under the apple tree.

Rose and The Prince got married.

They lived happily ever after.

The Pan and the Potatoes By Kirsi Kunnas

Phew! I’m sweating and steaming I feel like screaming I’m bubbling and seething I’m rattling like tea-things The pan said took his hat off his head and Phew! I’m absolutely boiling I’m bristling and whistling and hustling and moiling And all hot and sizzling It’s a mad mad bustle The pan said took its hat off its head and Phew! Ouch this hoppity, hoppity, hoppity Shouted the potatoes, popping up fit to split No way of stopping it, dropping it, swapping it dancing a polka, have to, dance, dancing a polka Got to go higher now, shoes are on fire now Galloping, galloping, off at a lollop Jumping and jumping and off at a wallop Turning and thumping, thumping and turning Oh this knocking and bumping and socking Off again copping it, hopping it, whopping it makes me split No way of stopping it!   This poem sings about how the potatoes are feeling when they are boiled in a pan. The potatoes say that they are very angry and wanted to scream becaus...
